Day 0000 1000 Part 1

Activities:
1. Install printer on the network
2. Create custom start menu

1. Installing Network Printer
Installation of the Xerox printer is the final process that needs to be documented. However, we still need to create a common start menu for the users in our network.

Begin by downloading the drivers for the specific printer that you have. Make sure that you download the Windows Server 2008 drivers. It is good to standardize which drivers you use (ie. postscript drivers) and load these on all your servers that will be accessing the printer. If there are more than one type of driver, the printer must reload the drivers to print the different formatted print job. We went with postscript drivers.
The next step is to go into the Printers window in the control panel. Add a printer.

Add a local printer and create a new port: Standard TCP/IP Port

you will then be asked to enter in the IP address of the new printer.

You will then be asked to install the drivers for the new printer. Since you already have installed the printer drivers on your computer, they will be located in the driver window.

Next, In the print manager, select Printers in the network. Deploy the printer with the group policy.

Locate the group policy that you wish to play with.
